Cornelia’s making final preparations for its 2019 Summer Concert this Saturday, May 18th. This year’s headliner is country music artist Aaron Tippin.
The Cornelia Hospitality and Tourism Board is sponsoring the event along with a number of local business. “We are trying to create a more festival type atmosphere this year. We have several food and merchandise vendors,” says board president Linda Anderson.
The evening’s entertainment will kick off at 5 p.m. with the Premier Elite Cloggers. They’ll be followed by Steve Phillips and the Midnight Express and then Justin Terry. Aaron Tippin will take the stage at 8 p.m.
Parking and seating
The concert will again be held at the old Grogan’s Chevrolet Dealership located at 301 South Main Street in Cornelia. Spaces at the site will be reserved for handicap parking. Additional parking will be available in downtown lots and at the Community House on Wyly Street.
Organizers say seating, too, will be limited. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
About the performers
Steve Phillips and the Midnight Express is a local Southern country rock band. Eastern Hot Rodder Magazine calls Phillips “an incredible musician, comedian, (and) story teller.” The group’s original songs include “Lightning Road” and “Brayton Mountain”. They’ve worked with Shooter Jennings and opened for The Kentucky Head Hunters, Diamond Rio, Matt Stillwell, Lee Greenwood and other county artists.
Justin Terry is a former bass singer for The Stamps Quartet. He’s just returned from a tour in France and is contracted to do 20 shows at Silver Dollar City this summer along with shows at Dollywood. He will perform with Gary Puckett and the Union Gap and has opened for Aaron Tippin in Hiawassee.
Aaron Tippin will be performing as part of his 25th Anniversary Celebration. “There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong With The Radio,” “My Blue Angel,” and “Workin’ Man’s PhD,” are among his many hits. Tippin’s “Where The Stars and Stripes and Eagle Fly” became part of the American soundtrack in the aftermath of 9/11.
Admission to the concert is free.
