Freda Luffman Cyle passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, January 13, 2023, at her home in Demorest, GA. She quietly slipped away from this life, ending her fight against the slow and unyielding neurological disorder known as Huntington’s disease.
Though many things were difficult for her towards the end of her life, she always maintained her dry wit with a little help from a fresh Diet Coke. Freda was born to the late Malcolm and Georgia Luffman on June 6, 1958, in Dalton, GA. She was the youngest of four children, survived by Fay Roberson and predeceased by Michael Luffman and David Luffman. She was a compassionate and loyal person who spent her professional and personal life serving those in need. She loved her family and prioritized their needs above all. Freda graduated from Georgia Southern first in her class with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She then spent several years working for the Division of Family and Children Services in Murray County, GA.
In 1986, she married the love of her life, Stosh Cyle, and moved to Atlanta, where she continued to work for the Department of Human Resources in the Division of Child Support Services. She was an exceptional mother to her son, Taylor Cyle, instilling in him a deep love of reading and always encouraging his curiosity. In 2014, she and her husband retired and moved to Demorest, GA, where they both became members of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed kayaking, hiking, and mentoring students at Clarkesville Elementary School. Freda loved animals, rescuing and nurturing many cats and dogs through the years. In her later life, she found great joy from the cardinals, finches, and hummingbirds that would visit her bedroom window while she read her latest novel.
She is survived by her husband, son, and sister, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 1 p.m., with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
