Frances Stamey Trotter

Frances Stamey Trotter, age 85, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Born in the family’s farmhouse in Mt. Airy, Georgia, on September 25, 1937, Frances was the fourth child of the late Charles Claude and Mamie Allen Stamey.

Frances’ father, a printer, instilled in her a love of reading, which stayed with her throughout her life. She was a good student, and after graduating from North Habersham, she went to work at Lumite. Later, she moved on to the office at HEMC, where she met Joe. The two were married on June 17, 1962. They built a home on Amy’s Road in Clarkesville, where they lived until late 2018.

Faith was important to Frances. She became a Christian at an early age. In her youth, she attended Hazel Creek Baptist Church and Demorest Baptist Church. Joe and Frances raised their children at Hills Crossing Baptist Church, where Frances was women’s Sunday school teacher for many years. She also served in after-school Bible clubs and other programs for children. Frances was secretary there for several years.

She enjoyed supporting Victory Home and volunteering at the Habersham Soup Kitchen. Frances was an enthusiastic band booster at HCHS and worked the concession stand dutifully. She loved to travel, whether it be a mission trip, chaperoning a high school trip, or traveling across the US with friends and family. Joe and Frances were once avid campers and frequented Moccasin Creek State Park, where they made several life-long friends. She enjoyed gardening and tended a beautiful rose garden.

Frances was proud of her children, but she was most proud of her grandchildren. Until her final days, she could not resist telling anyone who would listen about them, and they all know how very much she loved them.

Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Joe Donald Trotter of Lawrenceville, GA; sons David Trotter of Johns Creek, GA, Doug (Shari) Trotter of Snellville, GA, Tim (Jean) Trotter of Macon, GA; grandchildren Ella and Cara Trotter of Macon, GA, Zayden Trotter of Stafford, VA, and Jasmine Chloupek of Plainfield, IN; sisters Lois (Zach) Zaccagnino of Lompoc, CA, and Vera Roberts of Mt. Airy, GA; brother-in-law Jerry Dawkins of Oakwood, GA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by brothers Clyde, Johnny, and Charles Stamey and by sisters Margaret Wilbanks and Imogene Dawkins.
