A Toccoa teen who was critically injured in an automobile accident last week in Martin has died. 17-year-old Kainan Green passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Sources close to the family confirmed Kainan’s death and a social media account dedicated to him announced it this morning.
He was hospitalized in critical condition following the wreck that killed three other area teens on June 30.
Kainan was a rising senior at Stephens County High School. He was a wide receiver for the school’s football team and also played basketball. His fellow football teammate and friend, Eli Alexander of Martin, died in the crash along with 16-year-old Kennedy Wright and 18-year-old Tristen Helton, both of Clarkesville.
Funeral services for the three other teens were held this week.
“It was probably the most shocking thing I’ve ever heard. I would have never expected anything like this to happen in our community,” said Stephens County Senior Quarterback Jackson Bell after the wreck. “Eli was always smiling and cracking jokes. There was never a dull moment when you were around him. Kainan impacted the team in a positive way because of his hardwork, dedication and pushing others.”
Prior to Green’s death, recently graduated Stephens County High football team captain A.J. Howard spoke about his impact on the team. “Kainan is that guy that you didn’t have to always hear but knew deep down inside if you were going to war he was already strapped up and ready to go with you,” he said. “Kainan had the heart of a lion.”
News of Kainan’s death reverberated throughout social media.
In a nod to Alexander and Green, Bell says “This season will be dedicated to both of them in everything we do.”
