(Cleveland)- Another positive Rabies case has been confirmed in White County. White County Health Department Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan said in an email statement Saturday, a dog had contact recently with a rabid fox in the West Underwood Street area of the City of Cleveland.
According to Sullivan on Monday, November 12, a homeowner stated that a fox had gotten into their dog’s fenced enclosure the day before and their dog killed it. The fox was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur.
White County Environmental Health was advised Friday that the fox tested positive for rabies.
This is the fourth confirmed case of rabies in White County in 2019.
The dog is current on its rabies vaccinations but an observational quarantine of 45 days is still required.
Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid fox was located. If you live in this area and have concerns about rabid animal exposure, please contact White County Environmental Health at 706-348-7698 during normal business hours.
Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies.
