Four-way stop planned for Level Grove Road and J Warren Road intersection

Signs alerting drivers to upcoming traffic changes have been installed around the intersection of Level Grove Road and J Warren Road outside Cornelia. The intersection is being changed from a two-way to four-way stop.

The intersection is included in a recent Safety Action Plan grant awarded to Habersham by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Currently, the intersection allows the free flow of traffic on Level Grove Road while requiring entering and crossing traffic from J Warren Road to stop.

The intersection has been the site of numerous accidents in recent years, causing 14 injuries from 2019 to 2023, a county news release states. Records show that 23 of the 27 wrecks at the intersection were angle collisions; one was head-on, two were rear-end, and one was with a fixed object.

The county has also been awarded a grant for a radar speed limit sign. While the sign will not be a school zone camera, the county intends to use it to raise awareness for drivers traveling toward Level Grove Elementary School.

The new traffic signs will be installed by Peek Pavement Marking Inc. and are expected to be up and running by March 1.
