An infant and toddler were among four people who escaped injury in a single-vehicle rollover wreck near Turnerville late Saturday. The accident happened around 10:20 p.m. on GA 15 at Big Panther Creek.
22-year-old Brandon Stancil of Tiger was driving a 1999 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck southbound when he ran off the west shoulder of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned. “For whatever reason he just seemed to lose control of the vehicle,” says Senior Trooper Jason Stephens of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa. No charges were filed.
Restraints “made a difference”
There were three passengers in the pickup. Stephens identifies them as 22-year-old Nicole Thomas, 3-year-old Case Stancil and 5-month-old Berkley Stancil, all of Tiger. Thomas was in the front passenger seat. The kids were in the back. The adults wore seat belts and the children were in car seats.
No one was visibly injured. The four traveled by private vehicle to Habersham Medical Center to get checked out. “The child seats worked liked they were supposed to, so, thank goodness for that,” says Stephens. “The combination of airbags and seat belts really made a difference for them.”
Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies, Habersham Fire, and EMS also responded to the accident. The wreck temporarily shutdown the right southbound lane as crews cleared the scene.
