Funeral services were held today for a former Tallulah Falls School student-athlete who died last week in a motorcycle crash.
Caleb Matthew Griffis, 20, of Tallulah Falls, died Thursday afternoon, April 1, after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in Seneca, South Carolina.
Griffis, who graduated from Tallulah Falls School in 2019, was a student at Clemson University.
According to the Anderson Independent, Griffis was driving a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle west on Seneca Creek Road when he hit a 2011 Chevrolet truck that was turning into a private driveway.
Griffis was wearing a helmet and was ejected from the motorcycle, the newspaper reports. He died in the emergency room at Oconee Memorial Hospital, the county coroner said.
During his time at Tallulah Falls School, Griffis was co-captain of both the Track and Field and Cross Country teams and was a member of the school’s Bass Fishing Team. He was awarded an Army ROTC Line Scholarship to Clemson and was to attend the United States Army Air Assault School in August.
According to his family, Caleb had “a very strong work ethic and was always fully committed to whatever task was at hand. He was an extremely loyal friend and always wanted to be a source of support and encouragement to his peers.”
Survivors include his parents, Stan and Tamara Martin Griffis, brother Caden, and sister Carsyn, all of Tallulah Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Caleb Griffis Scholarship Fund at any branch of United Community Bank.
