Former jailer arrested for alleged sexual contact with inmate

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation today arrested a former Hall County jailer for allegedly having sexual contact with a female inmate.

David Rivera, 21, is charged with sexual assault against a person in custody and violating his oath of office, according to online jail records.

The Sheriff’s Office contacted the GBI to conduct an independent investigation after jail supervisors suspected Rivera had improper sexual contact with the woman.

Rivera resigned in lieu of termination on August 19, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Actions of this type cannot and will not be tolerated nor will I hesitate to request a criminal investigation by the GBI into such matters,” insists Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch. Noting that most employees do a “tremendous job” under often difficult conditions, Couch credited jail supervisors with helping to resolve the matter quickly.

Rivera was booked into the Hall County jail. His bond was set at $11,400.
