A former Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy was recently arrested on a charge of making false statements following an investigation that began in July.
Margaret Brumbelow, 30, of Lula, was arrested at her residence by Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit Deputies on Monday, August 12. Investigators had obtained a warrant for her arrest earlier in the day.
On July 13, Brumbelow reported that while off duty, another Deputy attempted to sexually assault her. The ensuing comprehensive investigation determined that the allegation was false.
Brumbelow’s employment with the agency was terminated on August 12, prior to her arrest, according to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Brumbelow posted $5,700 bond and was released from the Hall County Jail on the same day.
Brumbelow had worked for the Sheriff’s Office since July 17, 2016, and most recently was a Deputy in the Jail Division Transport Unit.
“Incidents like these are very difficult for law enforcement agencies, but they must be addressed when they occur,” Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch says. “We take reports of crime seriously, and members of our agency, assisted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, diligently investigated this allegation. While I’m thankful no attempted assault occurred, the falsehood could not be overlooked. Our department is full of excellent Deputies and professionals. Cases like these are the exception.”
HCSO spokesperson Derreck Booth says the incident is the subject of an ongoing internal affairs investigation.
