A former Banks County jailer is out of a job and now faces assault charges.The GBI says 32-year old Jason Nathaniel Layfield of Maysville was terminated during a criminal investigation into two separate incidents at the Banks County Jail back in January. Sheriff Carlton Speed requested the GBI investigation. The Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office obtained warrants for Layfield’s arrest after reviewing the GBI’s findings.
Layfield, who had worked at the Banks County Sheriff’s Office since June 2011, is charged with misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor simple battery.
He turned himself into authorities on February 18th.
