What started as a nonprofit organization 10 years ago, co-founded by community leaders Chaplain Paul Voorhees, founder of Ranger Joe’s, and former Georgia State Representative Jed Harris, Back Columbus Blue (BCB) has grown into a support system for first responders and their families.
The 4th Annual BCB Golf Tournament will be held on October 2 at Bull Creek Golf Course. The tournament has become a popular event and is supported by many local businesses and organizations, including Aflac, Energy Savers, Kinetic Credit Union, Fuller Fire and Safety, Georgia Power, and Lockwood Partners.
In the beginning, BCB was able to provide some equipment for the Columbus Police Department and holiday meals for law enforcement and their families. Most of that was funded by personal contributions from Chaplain Voorhees.
“We always wanted to do more, and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and those who have supported the golf tournament, including our Board members and other volunteers, we have been able to do that,” said Harris.
After their expenses last year, the BCB golf tournament netted a profit of $30,000. That allowed for 20 first responders and their children to receive a $500 scholarship. The funds will also continue to support needed equipment and the holiday meal program for CPD, Columbus Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department and Columbus EMS families.
“People have come in from across the southeast to play and support this tournament. There is a reservoir of goodwill in this community. We are thankful.”
There are still sponsorship opportunities available and a chance to play in the golf tournament. Click here for more information.
