Jekyll Island, GA – The Piedmont College men’s golf team finished 25th of the 30 teams in round two of the Jekyll Island Collegiate earlier today. The Lions posted a 314 for the day and now have a total team score of 617 for the two rounds.

The tournament is currently led by LaGrange College at 578, Illinois Wesleyan at 584, and Oglethorpe at 589. These teams are also home to three of the top five individuals in the field.

The Lions were led for a second day in a row by freshman Sam Hill (72-72–144), matching his score from round one with an even score for round two. Hill is currently tied for 7th place overall with Rhodes College’s Joey Mayo.

Junior Joseph Morris (79-78–157) followed closely behind and improved his round two score by one stroke. Morris had a tough first nine holes, but then was consistent on the back nine, making pars on seven of the last nine holes while also posting a birdie as well.

The freshman pair of David Cook (75-82–157) and Aaron VanKempen (92-82–174) tied scores today on the round at 82. Cook is now tied with teammate Morris in overall scores. Vankempen was able to improve by 10 strokes from round one to round two and was also able to make significant long putts on a par three and a par four to improve his score today.

Finishing up the day for the Lions was sophomore Jake Forbes (77-83–160) who shot 83 in round two and has the fourth highest score on the team overall.

The Lions now have three players in the top 100 of the individual standings with Hill, Morris,and Cook. Morris and Cook are tied for 95th place overall with 5 other players.
