Football Friday: Week 7

They had to travel a long way to do it, but the Rabun County Wildcats walked away with a win in one of Week 7’s premier matchups.

The No.1 Wildcats (5-1) traveled to Pierce County to take on the No. 3 Bears (4-2). It was the teams’ first meeting and Rabun County won it, 28-21.

This game was not on the original schedule — the schools are 290 miles apart — but it came about because of COVID-related cancellations.

In other games of regional interest…

The Habersham Central Raiders lost another region round at home against Buford. The nationally-ranked Wolves shut out the Raiders, 58-0. The loss drops the Raiders to 2-4 overall, 0-3 in Region 8(6A). Buford improves to 5-1;2-0.

White County lost on the road Friday at North Hall, 20-51. The Warriors went into the game hoping to boost their record. With the loss, they’re now 1-5;0-2. North Hall improves to 4-2;2-0 in Region 7(3A).

And it was a heartbreaker in Stephens as the Indians lost their first game of the season and region opener before a home crowd. The Indians (5-1;0-1) fell 24-34 to Monroe Area which remains undefeated.
