Football Friday Scoreboard

Raiders QB Joshua Pickett looks for an opening and a chance to light up the board. The Raiders didn't get many chances to do that, only scoring twice in Dacula's 50-14 rout. (photo by Daniel Purcell)

Week 8 saw the Raiders fall and the Warriors rise. Here’s a look at how local teams fared on the grid-iron:

Habersham Central 14, Dacula 50

The Raiders fell to 3-4 overall, 1-2 in the region after dropping their second straight, this time to Dacula. The Falcons keep their undefeated region record. Habersham’s brutal 8-6A schedule continues next week against Lanier.

West Hall 0, White County 35

It was Homecoming Friday in White County and the Warriors were back on their game, shutting out the Spartans 35 to 0. Still fighting to claim a place in the playoffs, the Warriors took to their home turf with a goal and they met it, racking up three TDs and three interceptions in the first half against West Hall.

The Warriors were off to an early lead with an interception by Bryson Cronic and made it twice into the end zone in the first. Darius Cannon got two more interceptions in the second quarter. A great catch by Cooper Turner led the Warriors to one more touchdown before the half. It was a one-sided show the rest of the way as the Warriors claimed two more TDs in the third.

White County’s off next Friday, but returns on Nov. 6 for a home game against Lumpkin County.

#2 Rabun County 42, Columbia Academy (TN) 6

The Wildcats had to travel across state lines to get in their game for the week. After Pacelli and Claxton backed out, Jaybo Shaw and company found an opponent in Tennessee. The Wildcats took on Columbia Academy on neutral ground in Chattanooga and made the most of it. Rabun won, 42-6.

Stephens County 28, Franklin County 29

After losing to Monroe Area last week, Stephens County had another tough loss, this time against neighboring rival Franklin County. The Lions went in as favorites but barely eeked out a win. Final score, 29-28.

Towns County 7, #3 Commerce 55

#3 Commerce steamrolled over Towns County on Friday. The Tigers went up early and never looked back, beating the Indians by 48 points. With the loss, Towns County drops to 2-5 on the season.

Union County 19, Banks County 7 (Final)

Playing for the first time in three weeks, the Panthers shook off the dust and scooted past Banks County 19-7 in Homer to open region play. Union County (3-2; 1-0) got nearly nothing going in the first quarter, but strung a few big plays in a row together midway through the second to spark the Panthers. BLITZ Sports reporter Brian Carter captured the highlights.
