It was a big night for the Rabun County Wildcats and a quiet night for several area teams that got sidelined due to COVID.
Habersham, White County, Stephens County, Johnson, and Clarke Central were all off this week due to the virus.
The Warriors earned an automatic win on a Gilmer forfeit, stamping the Warriors’ ticket to the state playoffs.
Habersham Central’s next game is Tuesday, Nov. 17. It’s the homecoming makeup game that was canceled last week when Central Gwinnett had to back out due to COVID.
Among the games that did happen, one of the biggest was Rabun’s Union rout.
The #1 Wildcats swept a night of ‘sevens’ Friday at home against arch-rival Union County. The Wildcats kept their seven-game win-streak alive, defeated the Panthers for the seventh straight time, and clinched their seventh straight region championship. Final score, 63-49. Brian Carter captured the highlights for BLITZ Sports (see video above).
Dawson County 63 – Lumpkin County 3
The Tigers were less than gracious guests on Lumpkin County’s home turf Friday, trouncing the beleaguered Indians, 63-3. Dawson’s close loss to Cherokee Bluff last week pretty much took them out of the region title hunt, but Friday’s win in Lumpkin sets up a monster game next week at North Hall.
Social Circle 34 – Towns County 27
Towns County fought their way back to pull within a single score of Social Circle on Friday, but the Indians couldn’t push it over the top. Social Circle won 34-27, further dampening Towns’ hopes for a berth in the playoffs.
#3 Commerce 28 – #5 Washington-Wilkes 17
#3 Commerce moved a step closer to a region championship, besting #5 Washington-Wilkes Friday night on the road, 28-17.
