The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia announced today that Chuck Toney will be assuming the role of Executive Director. His appointment is effective December 17, 2018.
Toney replaces John Becker, who retired after 15 years as Executive Director.
“Chuck’s demonstrated passion for mission-driven organizations combined with his extensive leadership experience made him an obvious choice to be the new Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia,” says Food Bank board treasurer and search committee chair John Graham.
Toney brings to the Food Bank extensive experience in communications, marketing, and leadership, according to the news release announcing his hiring. He comes to the Food Bank from Jackson Spalding, Georgia’s largest independent marketing communications agency, where he served as a Senior Communications Strategist. Prior to that he worked for almost 20 years in higher education communications and senior administration, including service as assistant to two University of Georgia presidents.
“I believe we are all mission people,” Toney says. “My parents modeled community service to me growing up and I felt a call to get back to a daily mission and purpose. There is no more fundamentally human act than feeding someone who is hungry. I am honored by the board’s confidence in me and excited about the great work we will do at the Food Bank.”
Toney and his wife Laura, an elementary school art teacher, have three young adult sons. They live in Oconee County.
Founded in 1992, the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia distributes more than 10 million meals annually to residents of northeast Georgia who are in need of emergency food assistance.
