(Sautee) – The Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia will honor 90-year-old potter Whelchel Meaders this Friday, February 11. Whelchel is the son of L.Q. Meaders and grew up around his father’s shop and has been surrounded by pottery his entire life.
A reception will be held at 5:30 PM followed by a video interview with Whelchel. Examples of Whelchel’s work are currently on display at the museum through April 5.
The event will also serve to officially introduce the new museum director; Meghan Gerig, along with new Pottery Board Trustee members Garrison Baker, Charlie Thomas, and Steve Winter.
This event also marks the close of the museum’s silent pottery auction, featuring some outstanding pieces by several different potters.
The Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia is located on the campus of the Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Arts Center at 283 GA-255 in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia.
