Flowery Branch man jailed for rape, other sex crimes

James Evans (HCSO)

Hall County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Flowery Branch man over the weekend on outstanding warrants for rape, child molestation, and sexual battery.

Deputies took James Kenneth Evans, 32, into custody without incident. They arrested him at his home in the 5000 block of Lights Ferry Road on Saturday morning, April 17.

According to initial details released by the sheriff’s office, Evans allegedly committed the offenses against the same female child under 16. The alleged rape and child molestation incidents occurred between May 24 and June 5, 2020, at the victim’s home. Evans allegedly carried out the sexual battery between January 1 and December 1, 2017, at the victim’s residence. Investigators say he knew the victim.

According to officials, the victim disclosed the incidents to a medical professional, who contacted deputies on Thursday, August 6, 2020. That prompted an investigation. Authorities obtained warrants for Evans’ arrest on Nov. 30, 2020. It took five months to arrest him because at the time the warrants were obtained, Evans was not living at his last known address.

“It was a matter of determining his current address. Individuals who know him were not forthcoming with that information, so it took time,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson tells Now Habersham.

Evans was booked in at the Hall County Jail and remained there without bond on Monday afternoon, April 19.

Sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate the case.
