Flash fire severely burns man clearing brush

A man in White County had to be airlifted to Atlanta after he suffered serious burns while attempting to burn brush.

White County Fire Services and EMS were called to 3216 Highway 75 South around 1 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a burn victim. Public safety spokesperson Ana Newberry says upon arrival, they found the 26-year-old man suffering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Newberry says he was clearing brush from the property for a construction project. When he attempted to light the brush, a flash fire occurred and burned him.

Fire and EMS personnel prepared the patient for transport to the hospital helicopter landing zone on Westmoreland Road. Air Life Two transported the victim to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.

No other injuries were reported.
