Say goodbye to the regular season. This is what all the programs play for. Region tournament schedules are set for boys and girls. See the slates below, in order from largest to smallest region.
WHITE CO (GIRLS)
The Lady Warriors throttled West Hall 62-36 on Monday night in the Region 7-AAAA opener. White County, the #3 seed, had little trouble with #6 West Hall, advancing to the second round on Thursday.
The win guarantees the Lady Warriors a state tournament appearance. Dasha Cannon led in scoring with 19 points, adding five assists and two rebounds. Bentley Cronic had 14 points, two assists, and two steals. Ellie Gearing also played well, grabbing seven rebounds and notching five steals.
Marist, who beat Denmark 80-18, is on tap next for White County on Thursday at 4 PM. The game will be played at Chestatee.
RABUN CO (BOYS)
The Wildcats opened the 8-AA tournament as the #6 seed, and upset #3 Social Circle, 65-53. Kasin Old had a triple-double of 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Cameron Lovell put a career night with 28 points. Chase Reed also had 15, all coming off 3-pointers.
The boys stamp a ticket to the state playoffs, and continue in the tournament with a rival matchup with Banks County on Thursday at 5:30 PM in Elbert County.
BANKS CO (BOYS)
The Leopards earned a 48-40 win in their tournament opener over #7-seed Monticello. The #2-seed Banks County boys were in control throughout the contest, leading by as many as 16. Carl Cleveland paced the Leopards with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. Pierce Martin (13 points) and Clay Gosnell (10) also hit double-figures.
Banks County earns a state playoff berth, and next takes on Rabun County Thursday in Elbert at 5:30.
UNION CO (BOYS)
The Panthers also notched a playoff spot in a 57-43 win over Putnam County in Monday’s finale. #4-seed Union got coach Casey Jones career win number 90 over #5 Putnam.
Pierson Allison led all with 21 points, as Sawyer Drake had 12 and Canon Hemphill 10. Union County pulled away late.
TOWNS CO (BOYS)
#8 Towns County edged #9 Athens Christian, 46-44 to advance to the next round of the 8-A tournament. The Indians will take on top-seeded Riverside Military at 8:30 PM on Wednesday at Commerce.
