14 fatalities reported on Georgia roads over Memorial Day weekend

At least 14 people died on Georgia’s roads over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, traffic-related fatalities occurred in Cobb, Clayton, Candler, Richmond, Peach, and Gwinnett counties, as well as in Douglasville, Brunswick, Perry, and South Fulton.

The wreck in South Georgia’s Perry happened on I-75 and involved two motorcyclists, the Department says. A pedestrian was struck and killed in South Fulton. No fatalities were reported in Northeast Georgia.

The holiday weekend officially ended Monday night.

The Department of Public Safety says that during the 78-hour holiday, state law enforcement worked 391 crashes and made 413 DUI arrests. Officers issued 6,870 seatbelt violation citations and 1,086 citations for distracted driving.
