Head Women’s Soccer Coach Timmy McCormack has announced the 2017 schedule featuring two road tournaments to kick off the season.
This marks the opening season under McCormack who worked as an assistant for the Lady Lions for a total of eight seasons. To view the full 2017 schedule, click here.
The Lady Lions finished the 2016 season with a 15-7-1 record and a run through the USA South tourney to earn their second straight USA South Tournament Championship. PC’s young roster returns to Demorest after graduating only three student athletes following the 2016 season.
Early Tourneys
The first two weekends in September will be busy for the ladies in Green and Gold as they travel to both the Maryville College Tournament (Sept. 1-2) and the Rhodes College Tournament (Sept. 9-10). PC kicks off the 2017 season and the McCormack era on September 1 against the Panthers of Birmingham Southern College and go on to play Howard Payne University the following day. The Lady Lions return to action the following weekend as host team Rhodes College awaits for a match on September 9 with a contest versus the Millsaps Majors on September 10.
USA South Opener
Piedmont plays host to Covenant College on September 23 in their first USA South conference contest of the Coach McCormack era. The last time these two saw each other was USA South Tourney play last season where the Green and Gold reigned victorious on the road as Covenant was the two-seed in their division. The win on Lookout Mountain set up a run to the semifinals and ultimately the championship for Piedmont.
Home Finale
The Lady Lions play against Berea College in the final game at Walker Athletic Complex on October 15 at 1 p.m. The afternoon contest marks only the second time the two have met in the NCAA era (since 2003) with PC holding the Mountaineers scoreless in the previous lone meeting. The Lady Lions, however, posted six goals off the cleats of six different players in the 2015 contest which was also the home finale that season.
