The Banks County Sheriff’s Office is hosting its first annual Shop with a Hero Benefit Ride on Sunday, October 20.
The ‘Shop with a Hero’ program is a Banks County tradition. It gives local underprivileged elementary school children a day to shop for Christmas gifts and eat delicious foods.
The most exciting part for the children is spending the day with local law enforcement, fire/EMS, and military heroes.
In Banks County, there are typically 20 students who are sponsored through donations by the communities and local businesses.
School guidance counselors select the children chosen to participate in the program. The amount of children helped depends solely on the amount of money raised.
“We try to do different fundraising events. There are a lot of people with motorcycles and jeeps in our community. We felt it would be a great way to bring in donations,” Public Information Officer Olivia Justus said.
This year, the Banks County Sheriff’s Office wants to raise MORE money to help MORE children. There are only three days left to pre-register for the Shop with a Hero Benefit Ride.
Payment will be collected on the day of the event for those pre-registering. Registration on the actual day will start at 1 p.m. with the ride beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Those registered to ride will enjoy a delicious lunch provided by the Sheriff’s Office before hitting the road. All proceeds will benefit the Sheriff’s Shop with a Hero Program.
“It is a great cause to help bring joy to children in need in our community,” Justus added.
