Firefighters’ quick response saves home

Banks County firefighters saved a Commerce home from burning after flames engulfed a neary barn.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. on July 19 at 1571 Highway 164. When Banks County firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the detached barn fully involved. The fire had spread to the house.

The residence was quickly protected, with only minor damage occurring, says Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols.

The barn was a total loss.

No injuries were reported. Crews remained on the scene for an hour. The fire was listed as accidental. Nichols says an electrical shortage could not be ruled out as the cause of the blaze.
