Residential fire in Cornelia under investigation

The Cornelia Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine what caused a fire to break out Thursday afternoon at a house on South Wayside Street.

Habersham 911 dispatched Cornelia firefighters to the scene at 252 South Wayside around 2:45 p.m. Baldwin and Lee Arrendale Fire Departments also responded.

Heavy smoke was seen pouring from the single-story wooden structure. Crews battled back the fire in the cold and rain and kept it from spreading. They managed to save the exterior of the home but the inside sustained heavy damage.
