High fire danger continues across Northeast Georgia

Dangerous fire conditions continue throughout Northeast Georgia this weekend.

Low humidity, windy conditions, and a high drought index increase the danger of outdoor burning and campfires. The US Forest Service says the potential for wildfires to spread remains at “critical levels” through Sunday.

Burn bans are in effect in multiple locations and the public should follow local restrictions to limit fire risk.

“Our highest priority is always the health and safety of the public and our firefighters,” says Director of Fire and Aviation Management for the Forest Service’s Southern Region Shardul Raval. “We ask the public to follow burn ban orders across the region to limit the potential for wildfires and damage to property.”

Check with your local burn permitting authorities before doing any outdoor burning.
