A fire behind the Goodwill store in Cornelia led to the evacuation of several customers just before noon on Tuesday, May 6.
According to Cornelia Fire Chief Billy Jenkins, the blaze originated in the store’s dumpster compactor, prompting a response from city fire crews. Firefighters successfully separated the compactor from the dumpster and extinguished the fire, preventing any damage to equipment.
No injuries were reported, but as of 12:30 p.m., customers had not yet been allowed back into the store.
