A pole barn and its contents were destroyed by fire on Monday evening in White County. The fire broke out shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Highway 284 in Cleveland.

A press release from White County Public Safety says that multiple passersby called 911 to report the fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the roughly 60-by-60-foot barn fully engulfed in flames.

Crews from the Cleveland, White County, and Lee Arrendale State Prison fire departments worked to contain the blaze to keep it from spreading to nearby vegetation. White County EMS and EMA also responded.

“Numerous volunteers from the White County Fire Service also responded and played a critical role in the response, contributing alongside our full-time fire personnel,” says White County Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett.

Firefighters contained the blaze within minutes and extinguished it. They remained on the scene throughout the evening, checking for hotspots, says Barrett.

He says the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
