A fire Thursday left a Habersham County man homeless. The blaze broke out shortly before 5 p.m. at a residence at 389 Cool Springs Circle off of Highway 17 near Clarkesville.
Family identifies the owner as Nikki Braswell. Witnesses say he was outside gathering firewood for his wood stove when he noticed his singlewide mobile home was on fire. He ran to a neighbor’s house for help and called 911.

Fire units were dispatched to the scene at 4:49 p.m. and arrived sixteen minutes later. When the first unit arrived the structure was fully involved, says Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the blaze. They managed to keep it from spreading to nearby homes. “The investigation shows the origin of fire was in the area of the wood heater,” says Black.
The mobile home was a total loss. Fortunately, no one was injured.
