Fire investigators are working to determine what caused a house on Lake Yonah to go up in flames.
The 1,000 square foot structure was located at 600 Bay Shadow Road. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black. He says the house was on the ground and smoldering by the time the first unit arrived at 9:32 a.m.
Initially, officials weren’t sure if fire trucks would be able to make it to the scene due to the steep driveway. They requested the Habersham County Fire Boat to be brought in from the Shiloh Fire Department to provide a water supply. Tallulah Falls’ Engine 7 was able to get down the driveway and crews were able to extinguish the fire. The boat was cancelled.
Black says it’s his understanding that the house was a second home and not the owners’ permanent residence. No one was injured in the fire.
