A Clarkesville man who was out visiting his neighbors returned to his own home this afternoon to find it engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1400 block of Highway 17 just after 2 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived they found a single-wide modular home almost completely consumed by fire, says Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
Personnel from the county and Clarkesville fire departments and Lee Arrendale State Prison remained on site for several hours extinguishing the fire. The home was a total loss.
There were several pets inside the home that managed to escape the blaze. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Black says the cause of the fire is under investigaiton.
