Some homeowners in north Habersham are assessing the damage after fire broke out at their residence late Saturday night.
At 8:55 p.m. on August 22, Habersham County 911 dispatched firefighters to a burning house in the 2000 block of Historic Highway 441. The house was located just north of Hollywood in the Turnerville community. Units arrived at 9:02 p.m. to find the single-story, 2000-square foot structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from the front of the house.
Crews began extinguishing the fire. As they prepared to go inside to search for occupants they were advised no one was home, but the residents were on their way, according to Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
Firefighters knocked down the flames within thirty minutes. They spent five more hours on the scene putting out hot spots and making sure the fire was fully extinguished.
Personnel from the Tallulah Falls Fire Department and Lee Arrendale assisted Habersham County Emergency Services with the operation. Crews cleared the scene at 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is under investigation.
