Officials are investigating to determine what caused a fire to ignite at a vacant home this week in White County.
Firefighters were first called to the scene at 676 Skitts Mountain Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday, December 11. White County with automatic aid from the City of Cleveland and Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade responded to the scene. When they arrived, they found an 1800 square foot structure with visible flames at the rear of the home, according to to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy. He says it was confirmed that the home was unoccupied.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and remained on scene conducting salvage and overhaul. The Fire Investigator was called in to investigate. Firefighters left the scene around midnight.
Within seven hours, the fire rekindled and firefighters returned to the location. They were on the scene until around 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Murphy says the Fire Investigator was called back to the scene and will continue his report for submission to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
