Film Screening: A President in Our Midst

A new documentary film about Franklin Delano Roosevelt will be screened for free in Gainesville on Saturday, April 20. The film is part of a public outreach project hosted by the Northeast Georgia History Center.

“A President in our Midst: Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Georgia” is a one-hour film that was filmed in Georgia and tells the story of FDR’s relationship to the state. The film was created in collaboration with Georgia Humanities and Georgia Public Broadcasting. It has won several awards, including the Bronze Telly in 2022 and the Southern Film Festival’s People’s Choice Best Film in 2021.

“Serving as Executive Producer of this film and engaging the talents of over 100 Georgians in its creation was a wonderful experience,” said Dan White, the executive producer of the film. “I hope people seeing this film will appreciate the story of FDR in Georgia and its national implications.”

The screening will be held at the John S. Burd Center for Performing Arts in Gainesville from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on April 20. Tickets are free and open to the public. A reception will follow the screening and will be held at the Northeast Georgia History Center, located directly across the street. The reception will offer light refreshments and an opportunity to speak with panelists. Tickets for the reception are $10 and support the Northeast Georgia History Center. Registration is required.
