Two female inmates and a deputy from Whitfield County were injured this morning when a prison transport headed to Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto crashed and caught fire in Hall County. The accident happened at 7:50am at the intersection of GA 284 and 52.
According to Georgia State Patrol Cpl. J.S. Munger, the inmates were being transported in a 2011 Crown Victoria. The car was traveling east on GA 52 when the driver “failed to stop at a stop sign” and struck a toy hauler camper being pulled by a pickup truck traveling north on GA 284. The car caught fire on impact and came to an uncontrolled stop in the intersection. The camper detached from the truck and overturned in the intersection.
23-year old Whitfield County Deputy Rosalia Pacheco-Hernandez, 33-year old Amanda Nicole Townsend of Tunnel Hill and 30-year old Hillary Marie Mchan of Dalton, complained of injuries. They were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for evaluation. Munger says all are expected to be okay.
The driver and passenger in the truck, 57-year old Steven Lawrence Gallo and 57-year old Renee Therese Gallo, both of Lakeworth, Florida, were uninjured.
