Coroner’s Office releases name of woman believed to have been killed in fiery crash

Funeral services are scheduled Sunday for a woman believed to have been killed in a fiery car crash in northern Habersham County over the weekend.

Services for 40-year old Wendy Tiffany Jenkins were announced this afternoon.

Habersham County Deputy Coroner Ken Franklin issued a statement also this afternoon stating officials strongly believe Jenkins was the woman found burned in her SUV off GA 197 North on Sunday. However, due to the condition of the body DNA tests will have to be run to make a positive identification. Franklin’s statement reads:

“From further examination of physical evidence and consideration of added inquiries, it is now believed that the unidentified individual in our county morgue is a caucasian female, under five feet in height, approximately 120 pounds and was driving a year 2000 to 2004 Ford Escape.

This describes an individual not seen since right before the time and in the general area of the accident on 11-10-2016. She is Wendy Tiffany Williams Jenkins. She was from the Clarkesville area and is now believed to have a Dahlonega, Ga address.

Since this individual is probably the Jane Doe in our country morgue, the Coroner’s Office is conducting further DNA testing to prevent any mistake and provide assurance in identity.”

The fatal accident was reported shortly after 5 p.m. on November 20 near the intersection of Bobby Brooks Road. Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Casey Coffee of Post 7 in Toccoa says the Ford Escape was traveling north on GA 197 when the driver failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off the east shoulder of the road. The SUV struck a tree head on and caught fire.

There was no personal ID found in the wreckage and authorities were unable to immediately determine who owned the vehicle.

In an emailed report of the wreck Coffee said, “I was unable to obtain the registration information and VIN information due to extensive fire damage.”

The body will be sent to the State Crime Lab in Atlanta for DNA testing.

Funeral services for Jenkins are scheduled for 2 pm, Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Grace Calvary Episcopal Church with Father Sam Buice officiating.
