The Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC) will present Fiber Festival in the Valley, a weekend dedicated to celebrating and learning about all things fiber.
“And by fiber, we don’t mean dietary fiber or high-speed internet,” says SNC marketing director Jennie Ingliss.
The Fiber Festival takes place over three days, Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21. Friday is dedicated to workshops taught by local fiber artists. Saturday and Sunday are all about fun, Ingliss says.
Friday’s half-day workshops are geared toward beginners. Participants can learn about a variety of fiber art forms, including needle felting, locker hooking, shibori, collage book, wet felting, tapestry weaving, fiber baskets, and knitting with light. Pre-registration is required.
On Saturday and Sunday, over 20 local and outside fiber art vendors will be set up across the SNC campus, demonstrating their skills. Some will also be showcasing fiber animals such as rabbits, alpacas, and sheep.
Festival hours on Saturday are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A quilt handmade and donated by Virginia Edwards of Cleveland will be raffled off during the festival. Also, the Hallway Invitational exhibit in the SNC Cultural Center will feature fiber art of all kinds, from crocheted wraps to macrame wall hangings.
