A FedEx driver was arrested on financial fraud charges after allegedly stealing the number of a government credit card in Union County earlier this year.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, an in-person credit card fraud was reported at Union County Fire Station 1 in early April. The department alerted authorities to unauthorized charges made on a county-issued credit card. Authorities say the card had been used without permission, prompting an investigation by Sgt. Bob Calamari, financial crimes investigator with the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Calamari allegedly tracked the fraudulent activity to Darius Harris, a local FedEx driver. According to investigators, Harris was picking up a package at the fire station when an employee temporarily left the front office. During that moment, Harris allegedly spotted a county credit card left on the desk and discreetly noted the card number. Police say he later used the stolen information to make several fraudulent purchases.

Harris was identified and brought in for questioning, and authorities say Harris allegedly confessed to the crime. All unauthorized charges have since been reversed, according to police, ensuring the county suffered no financial loss.

Harris was arrested and charged with financial transaction card theft, a felony offense. He was released on a $10,000 bond and transferred into the custody of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, where he faces additional fraud-related charges.
