Horace Mayfield of Toccoa is among those indicted after a law enforcement sweep that dismantled his alleged drug operation
Sixteen people arrested in last month’s major drug sting in Georgia-Carolina have been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Jurors in U.S. District Court in Gainesville handed down indictments Wednesday against Horace Mayfield, Nathan Howard, Stephens Ivester, Quincey Jones, Leonardo Steeples, Thurston Martin, Kevin Stowers, Malissa Holden, Marvin Teasley, Joy Hunter, Avero Howard, Audreona Scott, Gustavo Melendez, Carlos Sanches, Wilfredo Otero, Mario Stowers.
They were among 24 suspects arrested on February 17, 2016 when local, state and federal law enforcement executed search warrants on 22 different locations, including Stephens and Habersham counties. The sweep was aimed at dismantling the Mayfield Drug Trafficking Organization which authorities say had been operating in and around Stephens County for years.

The alleged ringleader, Horace Mayfield of Toccoa, is named in both indictments for allegedly trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine.
Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Christian issued a press release praising the efforts of the local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that brought down the Mayfield drug organization.
“This is a perfect example of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies working together to combat the distribution of illegal drugs in our communities,” he said.
