It is finally here. Having been announced in December, the Habersham County Landfill will no longer be accepting construction and demolition materials at the close of business tomorrow, Thursday, February 29, 2024.

The decision was made based on a study received by the county in 2023 which indicated that by not allowing construction and demolition materials into the municipal solid waste cell, the life of the landfill could be extended by approximately a dozen years. By closing the C&D cell, it allows room for the demolition debris from the old Habersham County Courthouse on Monroe Street in downtown Clarkesville.

For those of you who need this service, there are alternative facilities in Habersham, Hall, and Franklin counties that accept construction and demolition debris. The closest facility in Habersham County is a few miles from the landfill near Mt. Airy.

It is important to note that communication about the decision has been distributed throughout the county in various ways: the media, signage, social media posts, and contact with regular C&D users.

For questions about the upcoming change, contact the Habersham County Landfill at (706) 839-0242.
