Family pets, home lost in Banks County house fire

BALDWIN, Ga. — Two family pets died in a house fire Sunday, February 23, in Banks County, according to Fire Chief Steve Nichols. The Banks County Fire Department responded to the blaze at a home in the Apple Pie Ridge subdivision, located at 490 Whippoorwill Way, Alto, GA, around 2:20 p.m.

When firefighters arrived they found a Single-Family residence well involved with fire.

“The Home sustained heavy damage and is listed as a total loss,” said Nichols. “We were able to prevent it from spreading to other homes in the neighborhood.” Chief Nichols added that the occupants were not at home at the time of the Fire.

Chief Nichols explained the cause of the fire is still under investigation but is expected to be ruled accidental. This incident is under investigation by The Georgia State Fire Marshalls Office and is on-going.

Baldwin Fire Department was called to assist Banks County, and several other fire departments, including Jackson County, Habersham, Cornelia, and Lee Arrendale State Prison, assisted at the scene.
