Don’t forget to fall back this weekend! Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3rd. Before going to bed on Saturday night, remember to set your clocks back one hour.
While you’re adjusting your clocks, the Georgia State Fire Commissioner’s Office recommends taking the opportunity to change the batteries in your smoke alarms. This simple task, done twice a year, can significantly enhance your home’s fire safety.
“Smoke alarms are vital for early fire detection, safeguarding the lives of Georgia’s residents and their properties,” said State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John King. “Their effectiveness, however, is contingent on the battery’s functionality.”
The U.S. Fire Administration reports that 69 people have died in house fires in Georgia this year alone. Changing smoke alarm batteries twice a year, at the start and end of Daylight Saving Time, provides a convenient reminder to ensure these life-saving devices are always operational.
Even if your smoke alarm is not chirping, indicating low batteries, it’s crucial to replace them regularly.
For those needing assistance with checking or changing smoke alarm batteries, contact your local fire department.
