Fairy Landers Sheriff, age 96, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015 in her home, surrounded by her family and friends.
Mrs. Sheriff was born on August 23, 1918 In Mt. Airy, Georgia to the late M.W. and Louise Ivie Landers. She was a life long member of Camp Creek Baptist Church; she was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club, and Leon Williams VFW post 4346 Auxiliary, Toccoa. She was a former member of Cornelia Home Makers Club. She retired as a Group Chief Operator with Southern Bell Telephone Company with 20 years of service. She was the widow of Dewey Sheriff. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, William R. Ryals; and an infant son, Angus Eugene Ryals. Mrs. Sheriff was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mark Segers, of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouses, Christopher and Tiffany Shook, of Savannah; Kerri and Michael Merriett, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, Amanda and Mark Price, of Toccoa, Georgia, Marcus and Laura Segers, of Wilmington, N.C.,8 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Camp Creek Baptist Church with Dr. James Lyons, Rev. Bill Barrs, Rev. Rex Gallups, and Rev. Kenneth McEntire. The body will lie in state from 10:30 A.M. to the funeral. Interment will follow in the Landers Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
