Habersham EMC Holds 82nd Annual Meeting as a virtual event [WATCH]

In the interest of protecting the health and safety of members due to COVID-19, the HEMC Board of Directors voted to make changes to the Annual Meeting. Among those changes was to move the event to HEMC’s Clarkesville headquarters and hold a Business Session only. Due to social distancing guidelines, the Business Session was held as a virtual event being livestreamed on the Now Habersham website, Now Habersham Facebook page and Habersham EMC’s Facebook page. The Business Session was also broadcast through an FM transmitter so members near the headquarters had the option to listen on their radio.

David Wall, Chairman, Habersham EMC Board of Directors, called the meeting to order and gave the invocation.

Whit Hollowell, Interim CEO, moderated the meeting and provided an annual report to members tuning in through the various media channels. Hollowell recognized the directors, candidates, HEMC lawyer, CPA, and media in attendance for the Business Meeting. He also noted the changes due to the COVID pandemic.

As part of his CEO remarks, Hollowell reviewed the positive financial status of the cooperative, the modified right of way maintenance plan, power supply, the Cleveland office move, growth of Trailwave Fiber and improvements to the electrical system. In addition, he also provided an update regarding the CEO search. Hollowell also recognized Director Frank McCrackin, who retired after 19 years of service to HEMC as his term expired this year.

More than 930 members registered and voted in Habersham EMC’s Board of Directors election. Members could vote by absentee ballot or in-the office during an extended voting period.

Billy Cantrell, Rick Wood, Vonda Greene, and Dallas Taylor were elected to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors met immediately following the Business Session and elected the following officers: David Wall, Chairman; Dustin Hulsey, Vice-Chairman; and Billy Cantrell, Secretary-Treasurer.

All members who registered to vote in the election were entered into the door prize drawing. The door prize drawing will be held on Friday, July 17 at 10 a.m. on Habersham EMC’s Facebook page. This year’s grand prize is $1,000 cash. Members do not need to be present to win. Prizes will be delivered to the winners.
