If you’re a product of the 80s, chances are you know it well. Footloose was one of the most iconic films of that era. Now, the Habersham Community Theater and Habersham Central Stage Raiders are breathing new life into the story on the stage.
The joint musical production opened Thursday night, July 27, at the high school auditorium in Mt. Airy. There are three nights left. Tickets are still available.
Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack, who moves with his mother from the city to a small farming town. Ren’s prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth.
When the preacher’s daughter sets her sights on Ren, her boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation. And the locals are eager to believe the worst.
The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.
The remaining performance dates for Footloose are July 28-30.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students. You may purchase them online at HabershamCommunityTheater.com or by calling the HCT box office at (706) 839-1315.
