Former Clarkesville City Councilwoman Tina Courson Evans is seeking a political comeback. Evans, who was defeated by mayor-elect Barrie Aycock in 2013, is now running to reclaim her old council seat. The seat was vacated when Aycock resigned in January to run for mayor.
In a written announcement released to the media Evans said, “I am excited that Barrie stepped up and is our Mayor. I think she is the perfect person to lead us through this time of rebuilding downtown and completing SPLOST projects.” Evans added, “I think I am the perfect person to help with these as a council member. I can ‘hit the ground running,’ and I am familiar with city programs and processes. I feel that my knowledge and experience will be an asset to the council.”
Evans was first elected to the Clarkesville City Council in 2007 to fill the unexpired term of Joyce Wilbanks. She was re-elected in 2009.

“My Daddy once told me, ‘Community service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy here on earth.’ I have tried to do this throughout my life,” she added.
A retired educator who served as Director of Student Services for the Clarke County School System, Evans now serves as Interim Church Administrator at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville. She is an ordained church elder and has served as both a volunteer and board member at the Grace Gate free clinic in Demorest.
