Evacuation ordered over suspicious package in Cornelia

Concerns over a suspicious package at a local florist led to an evacuation in the area of Level Grove Road and Wayside Street in Cornelia on Friday.

Homes and businesses were evacuated around 2 p.m. after Cornelia Police were dispatched to L&D Florist in reference to the package.

“According to our departmental policies and procedures the area was evacuated, traffic was rerouted and school transportation was notified of the incident,” the Cornelia Police Department says in a press release.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Bomb Squad was called in to assist and “after their investigation they determined that the suspicious package was of no danger.”
