Eva Mae Burton Holland Garner, age 94, of Cornelia, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022.
Born on August 4, 1927, in Rabun County, she was a daughter of the late Grant James Burton and Dora York Burton. Mrs. Garner retired from Riegel/Mt. Vernon Mills after 28 years of service and was the oldest living member of Friendly Mission Baptist Church. Mrs. Garner loved her family and never met a stranger. She was young at heart and would sometimes sit with “old people” who were actually younger than she. In her spare time, she enjoyed the simple things of life such as gardening, cooking and flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by son, Larry Holland; son-in-law, Billy Lewallen; daughter-in-law, Brenda Burton; brothers, Paul Burton, Gene Burton, and Arnold Burton; sisters, Ruth Trotter, Cora Lee Kimsey, Ethel Lee O’Kelly, and Pearl Taylor.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James Burton of Alto, Tim Garner (Sandra) of Lula, and Sherry Holland of Mt. Airy; daughters, Laverne Lewallen, and Tammy Murray both of Cornelia; sister, Patricia Kranats of Demorest; and 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Danny O’Kelly, Rev. Devin O’Kelly and Mr. Greg Lewallen officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Austin Kelley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the funeral home.
