Eunice Virginia King Pierce was born August 15, 1932, in the hills of Habersham County. She stepped into Heaven on June 20, 2023.
She has finally seen Jesus’ face to face, a moment she dreamed of, spoke of and sang of all her life. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior when she was 8 years old and baptized by Preacher Grady Carpenter at New Hope Baptist Church in Cornelia.
It has been her heart’s desire that all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will also follow Christ and meet her in Heaven one day. We do believe the reason God left her here for 90 years was to be a prayer warrior over her family. She will be greatly missed as she was full of laughter, constantly singing, and an avid reader throughout her life, including reading the Bible through many times. She was a faithful servant on this earth, raising her 4 children alone, never having wealth or worldly riches but filled with the spirit and wisdom of God as she guided them into living godly lives.
Eunice was the middle daughter of Charles and Hortense (Waldrep) King. Greeting her in Heaven were her parents, along with sisters Marjorie and Kay Abercrombie. She has two children there, Kim Pierce and Rita (Pierce) Wright.
She is survived by her daughters Janice (Pierce) and Michael Grizzel and Rebecca (Pierce) and Jeff Holcomb; grandchildren Tricia (Pierce) and Robert Compton, Natalie (Grizzel) and David Martin, Logan Grizzel, Brandon and Erin Holcomb, Brittany (Holcomb) and Jerod Whitlock, Josiah Wright, Summer (Wright) and Kris Derring; 13 great-grandchildren Rose, Ruth and Ruben Compton; Charity, Jonathan, Moriah, Andrew, Bethany and Daniel Martin; Callie, Cole and Cora Whitlock; Nala Derring; sister Ann (King) and Marvin Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved.
She graduated from Airline High School in 1949 and had a love for learning. She married John Pierce in 1950, and they were married for 15 years before she was left alone to continue raising her children. She was a long-time member of Springway Baptist Church, raising her children there, who all accepted Christ as their Savior while there.
We wish to thank Habersham Retreat and Friendship Nursing Center for their care and love for Eunice while on this earth. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Jeff Terry and his staff, who took excellent care of Mama for many years.
